WATCH: Official Trailer for 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' Released

The new trailer for "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," released on Thursday, reveals key elements of the plot for the upcoming movie.

In homage to the original "Beetlejuice" film, Winona Ryder reprises her role as Lydia Deetz, explaining to her daughter, played by Jenna Ortega, who Beetlejuice is and how he tormented Lydia as a teenager.

Ortega, skeptical of her mother's tale, utters Beetlejuice's name three times, unwittingly releasing him from his prison. Michael Keaton returns as Beetlejuice, resuming his antics to torment the Deetz family once more.

The trailer previews scenes from the new movie, with Beetlejuice causing chaos anew. Catherine O'Hara returns as Delia Deetz, while the potential return of Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis remains uncertain.

Joining the cast are Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and Justin Theroux.

Tim Burton directs the sequel, 36 years after the original, slated for a theatrical release on Sept.
